The glass block structure, The Groton High School Tigers, represents the entire class of 1935 in Groton, South Dakota. On one side of the block structure are stylized portraits of the senior class along with their accompanying yearbook quotes. When viewed from the opposite side, the portraits are seen through a thick glass block which distorts the painted image. The distortions change as the viewing point changes.
A high school portrait represents a pivotal point in life. That image is transformed over time, changing through the eyes of not only the subject, but the beholder.
